Fashion, ICT and Development Meet at High-Level Event in Busan, Korea

BUSAN, South KoreaOct. 27, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- During the High-Level Global Fashion for Development (GF4D) event in Busan, Korea held in support of the 2014 Plenipotentiary meeting of the International Telecommunication Union, ITU's Secretary-General Dr.Hamadoun I. Toure highlighted the pivotal role that ICT plays within the scope of innovation and international cooperation towards development. 

The event included a spectacular fashion show with creations from Indonesian designer Chossy Latu and Korean designer Myung Rae Jo featured on the runway, as well as an art exhibit that showcased the work of Mexican sculptor Rodrigo de La Sierra in cooperation with artists from around the world.

Ambassador Francis Lorenzo, Executive President of the South-South Steering Committee for Sustainable Development and President of South-South News, touched upon the role that ICT plays in the creative economy, as a tool for development.

"Seeing all these designers from around the world together here tonight really underscores the power of South-South cooperation for the creative economy," he said. 


Ki-Ja Chung, Global Fashion for Development Chair, announced that GF4D would continue to award scholarships to promising young designers from developing countries in the future.

Participants at the event included Vice mayor of Busan, Gyu Ok Kim; President of Advanced Development for AfricaCoumba Toure; President of Young San University, Guwuck Bu; Former President of the Busan Chamber of Commerce, Jung-Teak Shin; as well as various government representatives, private sector leaders, academics, artists and designers from around the world.
Hee Jung Chung, anchor at national broadcast network KNN, served as mistress of ceremony.

Global Fashion for Development is a non-profit organization that utilizes art, design, culture and fashion as tools towards achieving the United Nations development goals. Serving as a platform for both emerging and established designers to showcase their work and create greater global cultural understanding, GF4D promotes the creation of jobs in the fashion industry, and ultimately greater development gains around the world.
