Sony Computer Entertainment New Zealand (SCENZ) today announced they will launch PlayTV™, a high definition personal video recording device (PVR), (RRP $199.95) for viewing via PlayStation®3 (PS3™) on the living room TV. PS3 owners in New Zealand can watch, pause and record Freeview|HD® digital television, either on a big screen TV, or when they are on the go with PSP™ (PlayStation®Portable), Sony Vaio laptops and Sony Ericsson’s AINO mobile phone. PlayTV will be available in stores on 25 November 2010.

PlayTV is a new device that connects via USB to PS3, instantly adding PVR and twin digital TV tuner functions to the PS3 entertainment suite. PlayTV is simple to use, features up to 13 day electronic programming guide and has no ongoing subscription costs. It is endorsed by Freeview, which promotes free-to-air digital television in New Zealand, giving consumers greater choice when switching from analogue to digital high-definition television.

With twin tuners, PlayTV allows you to watch one programme while recording another and even record television at the same time as playing a game or enjoying a Blu-ray movie. Owners can then either watch their pre-recorded programmes on the TV at a convenient time for them, or alternatively on the go via Remote Play on PSP, selected Sony Vaio laptops, or Sony Ericsson’s AINO phone.
PlayTV will be available in New Zealand from 25 November 2010 for RRP$199.95. To mark the launch of PlayTV, Sony Computer Entertainment New Zealand has announced a new bundle offer of a PS3 320GB console, coupled with PlayTV at no additional cost, for RRP$729.95 to offer the ultimate HD full entertainment suite[1]. One of the great features of PlayStation 3 is that the Hard Disc Drive can be easily upgraded – so you won’t run out of space. With a large storage capacity, combined with personal video recorder functionality, owners will be able to record hours of TV, with no ongoing subscription fees.
