New Zealand Sign Producer’s All Green HP Latex Offer

Rocket Signs in Auckland has a clear objective – to be the greenest printer of its type in New Zealand.

At the end of last year Rocket Signs replaced all its solvent printers with the new HP Designjet L65500 printer with HP latex inks. It is now awaiting receipt of the smaller HP Designjet L25500 with HP latex inks as a complementary addition to the larger machine. Managing Director Ross Hall talks about his motivation.

“There is no doubt that sustainable printing is the way of the future. I wanted to make a stand and position Rocket Signs as the most environmentally responsible printer in our market.”

“Over the past three years we’ve done a lot of research. We’ve looked at UV options and low solvent. I was at the point of saying there’s nothing on the market to meet our objectives and then HP released the latex ink machine,” said Hall.

He sent his production manager and in-house print guru to Sydney to check out the machine. They returned with glowing reports. So Hall put in an order for one of each and set about removing his solvent printers.

“We do a lot of printing for companies that have environmental policies. I believe this stance is only going to increase with more corporations and businesses adopting green practices. I wanted to have a unique selling proposition – a green proposition – which I now have.”

Replacing the solvent machines has also improved productivity said Hall with the HP Designjet L65500 faster than “all my solvent printers put together”.

Hall said another differentiator for the business is the in-house graphic design service Rocket Signs provides it clients. “We have three graphic designers who work with our clients to create their signage requirements. We rarely just receive a file and print it, but are intimately involved with our customers’ campaigns”.

Employing a staff of 25, Rocket Signs, which opened in 1986, produces high quality indoor and outdoor signage for a range of clients including architects who, said Hall, are extremely environmentally aware.

“Our architectural clients have been very impressed with the latex printer on a number of levels. And our corporate clients are starting to take an interest too in the new greener options that are available to them particularly with products like vehicle decals”.

In closing Hall said, “We’ve reinvented ourselves with our approach to green printing and the HP latex machines. I am extremely proud of my team and their commitment to making the necessary changes required to meet that ultimate green goal”.
