TELECOM CHANGES THE MOBILE PRICING GAME

Wednesday, October 28, 2009

Telecom has revealed new text and mobile broadband pricing offers that will shake up the mobile market this Christmas.

Heavy text users will welcome the introduction of ‘Non Stop Text’, a text offer that gives customers all the texts they need  to any NZ network, for just $12 a month.

Mobile broadband customers are also looked after with new plans and great Christmas offers for those wanting to try mobile broadband for the first time, as well as existing users wanting more data for their buck.

Director of Mobile, Paul Hamburger says the time is right for Telecom to follow-up the successful changes already made to plan structures with further innovations in pricing.

“We have been thrilled with XT’s launch and the way customers have embraced their new mobile network, but we’re not taking our foot off the pedal - and these offers show kiwi customers that we mean business.

“The Text and Mobile Broadband offers hitting the market today are very much the product of customers’ feedback and our desire to lead the mobile market into a new era - these are market changing offers,” says Mr Hamburger.

For just $99, prepaid Mobile Broadband customers receive a T-Stick (MF626), free XT SIM card and 500 Megabytes (MB) of data free for use within the calendar month. This makes for an easy way to try mobile broadband and then control spending, as you top up your T-Stick like you would a prepaid mobile phone.

Further innovation comes in the form of an on-account (postpaid) Christmas offer that gives customers double the data (8GB of data for the price of 4GB) on a 24 month term at $69.95 a month  if they also have fixed broadband with Telecom, or $79.95 for other customers.

This offer also includes a free T-Stick (MF626), free XT SIM card, and access to a usage meter and alerts by text and email.

“XT is already faster in more places, and with our impending upgrade to the turbocharged technology HSPA+ we want to provide plans that give customers the freedom to take full advantage of XT’s speed and coverage,” says Mr Hamburger.

In readiness for the fast speeds of HSPA+ Telecom is also releasing a 21 Megabit per second (Mbps)3 TT-Stick. The ‘Turbo T-Stick’ will be available in store for $149 when purchased with a 24 month plan.

Detail of Telecom’s exclusive partnership with Noel Leeming for Notebooks was also revealed today. The Noel Leeming 4GB Notebook Mobile Broadband bundle is available with the Double Your Data Christmas offer (detailed above), and there is also a 2GB Notebook plan available.

“We’ve chosen not to stock Notebooks in our own retail stores after customers told us they want to be able to compare a full range of laptops, netbooks and accessories - our partnership with Noel Leeming best ensures this can happen. Customers can pick whatever brand of Notebook meets their needs, and then couple that with our superior XT Mobile Broadband  service,” says Mr Hamburger.

Supporting the release of new pricing, Telecom is also revealing a new line up of handsets and devices. Two of note are the Sony Ericsson Aino U10a (RRP $999) and Samsung S6700 retailing at $499.

The Sony Ericsson Aino U10a has an extraordinary 8.1 megapixel camera with
3.0” screen allowing for superb multi media watching.

The Aino also hasRemote Play with Playstation3 (PS3) allowing customers to control their PS3 with their mobile phone. The Samsung S6700 has 3 megapixel camera and
mobile TV.
